Moroccan cuisine leans vegetable-forward more than travelers often expect, so vegetarian meals aren't an afterthought on this route — they're close to the default. Vegan and other stricter diets take a little more advance planning, but they're entirely doable with notice.
What's typically on the menu
- Vegetable tagine. Slow-cooked carrots, potatoes, courgette, and seasonal vegetables in a spiced sauce — the most common vegetarian main, and genuinely one of the best dishes on the whole route.
- Vegetable couscous. The Friday classic, often available other days too on request, piled with seven-vegetable stew.
- Moroccan salads. Cooked and raw salads — tomato and cucumber, cooked pepper and tomato (taktouka), lentil salad — usually served as a starter at every meal.
- Bread, olives, and mint tea. A constant across the whole trip, at breakfast and alongside every meal.
- Fresh fruit. The typical way meals close, especially melon and orange depending on season.
Vegan and stricter diets
Vegan travelers can eat well on this route, but a few dishes default to dairy or egg (bread is sometimes brushed with butter, some tagines finish with a touch of butter or ghee) — nothing that can't be adjusted, but it needs to be flagged before you arrive rather than at the table. Gluten-free and other allergies work the same way: tell us when you book, and camps and drivers plan the meals accordingly rather than improvising on the day.
How to flag it
There's a notes field on our inquiry form — mention vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or any allergy there when you request your quote. For anything more specific (a serious allergy, for instance), it's worth restating it directly with your driver-guide on the first day as well, just so it's confirmed in person.
What doesn't change
Dietary needs don't affect price or itinerary — every camp on our routes can accommodate vegetarian travelers as standard, and vegan or allergy-specific requests are handled the same way across all three camp tiers.
