The case for shared
Shared tours exist because sharing the vehicle genuinely lowers the cost per person — the fuel, driver, and often the accommodation are split across the group. If you're traveling solo or as a couple on a tighter budget, this is usually the more sensible choice, and it comes with a real upside beyond the price: a group of strangers on day one is often a small group of friends by the campfire on night two. Solo travelers in particular tend to enjoy this more than they expect to.
The trade-off is the schedule. Stops are timed for the whole group, so you won't linger an extra twenty minutes at a viewpoint because the light is good, and pickup times are fixed rather than built around your morning.
The case for private
A private vehicle removes the schedule entirely. Want to skip the studio tour in Ouarzazate and spend that time in Aït Ben Haddou instead? Want a 6am start instead of 7:30? Traveling with young kids, older parents, or anyone who needs a different pace? Private solves all of it, because the itinerary answers to your group and no one else's.
It's also the only option if your dates don't line up with a shared departure, or if you'd simply rather not share a long drive with people you've never met.
How to decide
- Choose shared if: you're solo or a couple, budget matters more than a flexible schedule, and you don't mind (or would enjoy) traveling with others.
- Choose private if: you're a family or small group already, your dates are fixed, you want control over pacing, or you're combining stops that a group schedule wouldn't accommodate.
Group size changes the math too — for four or more travelers, a private vehicle often costs about the same per person as shared once you split the vehicle cost across the group, which is worth asking about directly when you request a quote.
